Fabulous keyboard music from the archives of the Benedictine monastery Marienberg in Tirol
A new CD from Tiroler Landesmuseen, vol. 34 in the series Musikmuseum.
Peter Waldner playing organs, harpsichord and clavichords with music of Alessandro Poglietti (d. in Vienna 1683) - The famous «Il Rossignolo» variations. Also music by Johann Zach (1713-1773) a fuge in g minor, excerpts from Georg Muffat’s (1653-1704) Apparatus musico-organisticus, Georg Friedrich Händel’s six fugues (HWV 605-610) and finally a Fuga by Marian Stecher (1754-1830). A glorius and rich recital full of surprising finds of both instruments and in the music manuscripts and rare prints.
The beautiful harpsichord by Andrea Restelli (Milan, 2016) after an instrument by Christian Vater (1738) proves to be ideal for «Il Rossignolo» in particular.
Also erudite essay by Franz Gratl with a translation by Robert Crowe.
Highly recommended.
